Dow Jones VentureSource released its second-quarter venture-capital statistics over the weekend, and they were about what you’d expect. Venture capitalists did more investing in the second quarter than they did in the first, which was the worst in more than a decade, but not as much as they did in the second quarter of last year. Venture capitalists put $5.27 billion into 595 deals in the quarter, according to the unit of News Corp. (NASDAQ:NWSA). In the same quarter of last year, they invested $8.33 billion in 726 deals, and in the first quarter of this year, they invested $4 billion in 483 deals. Dow Jones VentureSource said investing activity, in both deals and dollars, was at 2005 levels. Its full report on the quarter is available
