Baltimore to announce deal with new Grand Prix organizer

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said late Friday that the city plans on entering a five-year agreement with a new group to manage the Baltimore Grand Prix, but will not release specific details until Wednesday. In a statement, Rawlings-Blake said an agreement is "pending final internal review." The plan is to present the final contract to the city's Board of Estimates on Feb. 22. Gannett Co. Inc. — the parent company of the Arizona Republic, USA Today and KPNX-TV Channel 12 in Phoenix — is offering buyouts to 665 newspaper veterans throughout the media company. Solar farm developer hires Hawaiian firm to assess impact

The developer of a 10-megawatt solar farm on Kauai has hired a local Hawaiian firm to conduct a cultural impact assessment of the 53-acre site. The Homestead Community Development Corp. has hired Native Kauai LLC, owned by Anahola resident Kehaulani Kekua, to be the principal cultural investigator for the project, which will be built on Hawaiian Home Lands in Anahola. “Our Anahola lands are precious to us in the homestead,” Lorraine Rapozo, HCDC board member and president of the Anahola Hawaiian Homes Association, said in a statement...
Hawaiian Electric says no rate increase for solar lost revenue

Hawaiian Electric Co. said Friday that it won’t seek a rate increase to make up for lost revenue from homeowners or businesses who have installed solar power systems in what it calls a “lost contribution to fixed costs.” “It is true that there is currently a small cost to all electric customers to cover the fixed costs of generation, transmission and distribution facilities that must still be available to serve those who have solar photovoltaics when their systems are not generating energy,” HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg told PBN in an email...

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation could be getting ready to put in some pretty pricey concrete pillars if the lawsuit challenging the city's $5.1 billion rail transit project continues to move through in the courts. Committee OKs bill to help save two closed Hawaii hospitals

A state House committee on Friday passed a bill to issue $80 million in revenue bonds to St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii to upgrade the two shuttered Hawaii Medical Center hospitals. House Bill 2345, which passed the House Health Committee on a vote of 7-0, with three members excused, awaits a hearing in the House Finance Committee before heading to a floor vote. St. Francis would use the money to upgrade the buildings at Hawaii Medical Center East in Liliha and Hawaii Medical Center West in Ewa, upgrade the courtyard and parking garage, modernize technology and equipment and refinance debt at both facilities...
City winnows field of arena parking bidders

When the city of Sacramento asked for a request for qualifications from private parking operators, it got 13 submissions. According to an agenda item for discussion for the City Council’s Tuesday meeting, the city has narrowed the selection to just 10. The city is considering leasing downtown parking operations for up to 50 years for money to pay for a sports and entertainment complex to house the Sacramento Kings. The agenda item says city staff have reviewed the possible bidders, and narrowed them down to the most qualified operators...

San Francisco accounting firm Burr Pilger Mayer Inc. said Friday that it will not merge with Southern California’s Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corp. William Mehlhaf, whose name adorns Portland’s prominent Markowitz, Herbold, Glad & Mehlhaf law firm, has passed away at the age of 61. Mehlhaf lost his three-month-plus battle with pancreatic cancer Feb. 4.
