The current bankruptcy agreement with Chrysler-Fiat will not put the squeeze on Wisconsin consumers who want to use the lemon law. The state's Department of Justice -- which shepherded the consumer protection effort in 1982-83 -- said this week the "New Chrysler" company will meet states' lemon law conditions.

With the latest news out of the auto industry surrounding GM's recent entrance into Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the possible move to sell its Hummer brand to a manufacturing company out of China and another possibility of a Saturn sale to Penske - though industry funds and jobs may be dwindling - one thing in abundance when it comes to the future of the automobile is uncertainty.

Oregonians who buy automobiles that turn out to be "lemons" will have longer to make legal claims under a bill headed to Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
