Chinstraps (Pygoscelis antarctica) are about 30 tall and weigh around nine pounds. They are similar in appearance to Adelie penguins except for a distinguishing narrow black line (the chinstrap) which crosses the throat to join the black at the back of the head. Chinstraps feed on crustaceans and fish.Chinstraps are abundant, but restricted in distribution. They can be found in North Graham Land, the South Shetlands, the South Orkneys, South Sandwich and east to Bouvet Islands. Small numbers reside on South Georgia and Heard Islands, with vagrants sometimes showing up in the Falkland Islands.This is a silver and enamel pin. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass. Next, they fire the pieces in a kiln to produce an alluring richness of color. It measures approximately 33mm by 47mm.
