2 out of 5 stars What a crock! They should be ashamed of themselves!   December 30, 2008

I watched the video about it on Amazon and the Sierra Club is a sponsor. Since when did the Sierra Club care anything about Christianity? Apparently, when they figured out how they can use it to advance their liberal agenda. Also, as soon as I saw that Brian McLaren was a supporter, I immediately wrote it off as an attempt at liberal propaganda using the Bible. The video also implies that Christians don't take care of the earth. What a crock! br / br /You should also read the excerpt on Amazon from Barbara Brown Taylor where she says that she was really let down when she realized that man was made on the same day as the cattle (Genesis 1:24-27). So now, she says, she realizes that we are no better than cows. Hello! Cows were not made in God's image! Cows were not created for communion with God. Cows were not given a soul, and Jesus did not come to earth as a cow. I couldn't believe what I was reading. br / br /I gave it two stars because it still is the word of God, but the total lack of respect for God's word is shameful.

5 out of 5 stars Green is good   December 20, 2008

I bought this for a gift for a freind. With a title like that I was concerned about the "slant" that it would have. I was pleased when I looked at it and my friend says he has read the Bible more in the last couple weeks than the last 30 years.

1 out of 5 stars Hypocrisy in action!   December 7, 2008

I find it very ironic that those of you who gave this "bible" a positive review stated that you already own one, even many, Bibles! So what you are saying is that you are willing to kill more trees and harvest more cotton just so you can own ANOTHER bible?! You call that ecologically-friendly?! Sounds like the epitome of HYPOCRISY! Suggestion: why dont you go READ THE BIBLE YOU ALREADY OWN?! And while you're reading make sure to read through the book of Revelation, especially the passages that talk about how the Lord will be destroying this sin-riddled EARTH that you are working so hard to preserve. Maybe you'll come to realize that the almighty and infinite God who CREATED this current earth also has the ability to preserve it and it's environment if He wants to!! You think He needs YOUR help? You give yourself too much credit. br / br /Doesnt anyone realize that this is a simple ploy by Harper to make more money off of you?! Do you really think they are ecologically-concerned? The simple fact that they continue to sell you another Bible you dont need is proof enough that when they say "green" they're only thinking about the "green" in your wallet! br / br /PS: when is the "pink letter" bible coming out for little girls? Or the "blue" bible for boys? Maybe a "rainbow" bible for gays? Sure, why not? The worlds full of trees to cut down and use without care or caution, right Harper?

2 out of 5 stars An Intolerable Mockery   December 5, 2008

Readers beware, this is not a "Bible" it is a poorly repackaged, scholarly indefensible, cheap marketing ploy form Harper and all scorn should be heaped upon them for such an endeavor. Verses that are highlight to purportedly show the environmental theology of the bible are poorly chosen. The bible does have much to say concerning stewardship of the environment and I refer you to Francis Shaffer's excellent work "Pollution and the Death of Man" but the green bible is brown in my book, like the dirt it should be buried in. br / br /If anything ever marked a point in the road when the consumer should protest the incessant flow of garbage from publishing houses like Harper, now would be the time. It's time to hold publishers accountable for what they produce by voting with your pocket book. Please discern that I am not saying that this book should be forbidden from being printed, that would be "intolerant". I'm saying spend your money on something more worthwhile and they'll get the message. Shame on you Harper! And shame on the fool who falls prey to yet one more shameless marketing ploy. br /
