INTERESTING FACTS: Guercino received his name, Il Guercino, ‘The Squinting One’ due to a physical defect. Guercino was influenced by Annibale Carracci. Guercino spent two years in Rome painting commissions for Pope Gregory XV. After the death of Guido Reni in 1642, Guercino moved to Bologna. There he took over Reni‘s workshop and became the city’s leading painter.
