Product Description Gustave Courbet
BORN: June 10, 1819 in Ornans, Doubs, France. DIED: December 31, 1877 in La Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland.
MOVEMENT: Realism
INTERESTING FACTS:
Courbet led the Realist movement in 19th-century French painting. Courbet believed artists were incapable of reproducing the past or future in their work. Therefore, he preferred to paint from his own experience. His painting, 'After Dinner at Ornans' earned him a gold medal at the Salon in 1849. Courbet painted everyday people and places to reveal the French people as a political entity. His painting, 'Stone-Breakers' was destroyed in the British bombing of Dresden in 1945.
NOTABLE WORKS: Self-Portrait with a black dog, Self-Portrait-The Desperate Man, After Dinner at Ornans.
GUSTAVE COURBET Art Book contains 150+ Reproductions of Landscapes, Seascapes, Portrait and Still Life Subjects with title and date.
