Language of Religion in South Asia

A comprehensive study of major theoretical and empirical issues of language of religion in the multilingual and multi-religious context of South Asia. The collection addresses the major issues of the multifaceted relationship between religions and languages; "authority" and authentication of the diverse traditions; forms and functions of scriptures; metaphors, rituals and myth; translation; socio-cultural ideologies; language of religion and identity construction; and language of religion in South Asian media. These issues are examined from the linguistic, theological, philosophical, sociological, and anthropological perspectives.
