This fascinating fresco demonstration is an excellent opportunity for you to get familiar with the creative process and concept of buon (true) fresco - painting on wet plaster. iLia Anossov, Nathan Zakheim, and Masha Zakheim will introduce their audience to the traditional method of the true (buon) fresco and erase most of the misconception about traditional buon fresco technique that one may currently have.

Nathan & Masha Zakheim share over half a century of "living with fresco" that began in the studio of their father Bernard Zakheim - fresco artist, creator of Coit Tower Fresco Project and a friend of Diego Rivera.

Since that time, Nathan has conserved and/or removed and relocated more than fifty high profile frescoes, and is generally considered an authority on fresco conservation. In addition to Fresco, Nathan has developed and deployed more than a dozen innovative state-of-the-art methods for the conservation of large outdoor works of art, as well as innovative techniques for the conservation of oil paintings, sculpture, objects, etc. Nathan will speak about his experience as conservator - "mural doctor", nickname he recieved for his contribution to preserving our cultural heritage.
Masha wrote up many guides for viewing mural art in San Francisco. She also published a book titled COIT TOWER, SAN FRANCISCO: ITS HISTORY AND ART (Volcano Press, 1983), and two editions published in Spanish of DIEGO RIVERA IN SAN FRANCISCO (Conaculta, University of Anthropology, Mexico City, 2001). Now retired from teaching, Masha Zakheim continues to give tours, to lecture, and to write about the subject of San Francisco's Art of the 1930s.
This is surely an opportunity of a lifetime. To be in the presence of these great artists and historians, together in one location, providing you with knowledge and insight into fresco, restoration and history that cannot be found in any other arena, this demonstration is priceless!
